Destination: Toronto sign

Today we ran downtown to the Toronto sign at Nathan Phillips Square. I’ve never run downtown before but it wasn’t as far as I thought it would be. It took us about 1.5 hours to get there which doesn’t seem that long since it would normally take 45min to 1 hour to subway downtown.

During the first 8km, I ran super fast trying to keep up with the lead pack because I didn’t want to be lost. I ended up falling behind at Eglinton because of a red light. Good thing Jim waited for us where we needed to turn at Bayview and we met back up with the lead pack as they waited for us before all the turns going through the downtown area.

We ran through posh neighborhoods and we ran through not-so-posh neighborhoods. When we ran through the Parliament and Wellesley area, for a brief moment, it felt like I was at an outdoor market in a developing country. It was a bit surreal.

Toronto may not be the first city you think of as beautiful but beauty is actually all around us. We just have to look. Here are some photos we took enroute…

Nutrition log:

  • Pre-run: cereal with milk
  • Mid-run: Nuun, water
  • Post-run: water, free root beer from A&W

It was A&W’s Free Root Beer Day so we got 15 cups of root beer. We were all thirsty so it really hit the spot! 😄
