Race Report: Toronto Triathlon Festival

It was a cold and rainy day. We arrived really early so I was basically standing in the rain for 4.5 hours before my turn to run. I wore my waterproof trail shoes but my socks still got so wet that I was able to wring them out. Good thing I brought an extra pair of socks so I was able to change into them right before Charlotte came back.

One thing I need to remember for next time it rains on race day is to bring a garbage bag to cover my stuff. Because I didn’t have a waterproof bag, everything inside my bag (dry clothes and towel) got wet. Kind of defeats the purpose of bringing dry clothes.

I’m so proud of our team. Erik did so well. He totally underpromised and overdelivered on his time. Charlotte, as usual, did an amazing time, even though she was nervous about biking in the rain. I was happy with my time even though it wasn’t a PB. We ended up placing 4th out of 9 co-ed relay teams. Pretty impressive!

TIMELINE:

  • 4:15am – alarm went off
  • 4:45am – ate a PB&J sandwich
  • 5:10am – Charlotte and Earl picked me up
  • 5:40am – Arrived at TTF
  • 6am – all set up and ready to go
  • 7:10am – Erik started
  • 7:47am – Erik transitioned with Charlotte
  • 9:20am – Charlotte came in from her 40km ride
  • 10:12am – I crossed the finish line

This year’s medals are so much nicer than last year’s.

What a great team.

Nutrition log:

  • Pre-run: PB&J sandwich 5 hours before, banana 30 minutes before
  • Mid-run: water
  • Post-run: half a banana, 2 protein balls, water
