It’s been 3 weeks since The San Francisco Marathon. I haven’t blogged since the race report but a lot has happened since then!
The pain in my ankle that I briefly felt during and after the race came back the day after the marathon, with a vengeance. I ended up taking 1 week off running to nurse my ankle. It was probably a good thing since I didn’t have the time or energy to run anyway because our vacation schedule was so jam-packed. We walked a lot though which made up for the lack of running.
I was so glad that I had my brother-in-law who did acupuncture on me during our vacation.

This was the spot where it hurt for 1 week. Each night, after walking and driving for the whole day, my BIL would acupuncture me in multiple spots. Just like magic, it would immediately feel better and every day, it would hurt less. I believe that it sped up my recovery. Acupuncture is amazing!
I tried doing a short run 1 week after the marathon. Sadly, the pain came back after 15 minutes so I had to stop. Being injured is the worst! Thankfully, five days later, I did a 30 minute dreadmill run and had no pain. Yay!
I got back to Toronto and, in a moment of weakness, I told Lisa that I’d upgrade to the full if she wanted to sign up for the Scotiabank Marathon. So just like that, I signed up for another full marathon and it’s happening in just over 2 months! ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ #STWM2018 here we come!
For week 1 of our #STWM2018 training, I ran cautiously on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday last week. I was paying special attention to my ankle and foot. It felt fine so I thought I was out of the woods with the injury. Sadly, on Friday night, I somehow hurt my ankle again, but in a different spot. I wish I could say I was doing something exciting that was worth getting hurt for. But no, I was just reaching for something from a lower kitchen cabinet when a sharp pain shot up my ankle. ๐ฉ It was still there in the morning so I couldn’t run on Saturday with the ninjas. I was so sad that I couldn’t run, especially when Lisa and Ravi came to drop off their bikes in the morning before the run. Injuries are really the worst.
Thankfully, the pain went away by Sunday and I was able to run again today (yay!). I really hope that I’m out of the woods with the injuries because Lisa and I have a lot of running (and swimming and biking) to do over the next few weeks, months, and years!! ๐ ๐ ๐

The People’s Church run group hosted a potluck bbq tonight with lots of yummy food. I had curry chicken, challah, lots of salads and fruits. I brought snickerdoodles again. My fav.
Stay tuned for the updates on swimming and biking. ๐
Yes, injuries are the worst but I’m glad you’re back up & ๐! Welcome back MARATHONERโฃ๏ธ
Hmmmm, 2 people having moments of weakness @ the exact same time could lead to a lot of trouble… One should be strong when the other is weak & vice versa!
I’m glad there are more than one Lisa’s in the group with all that activity you have planned ๐ Cross-training is good! I see Ironman 70.3 in YOUR future ๐

Another marathon already?! You sure are ambitious. ๐ Hope the ankle is better now. Iโve had a few injuries in the past and waiting to get better is hard. Be patient. Donโt push yourself too hard. Make sure you have enough time to recover. Lots more races in your future.
