On Labour Day, I woke up and decided to go for an 8km run outside because 1) I can, 2) it was on our training plan, and 3) I knew that some of the ninjas were going to be running an 8km in Toronto so I channeled their energy and got myself out of bed, changed into running clothes, and went out.
I tried a new strategy of not eating anything before the run based on some articles I read about training your body to burn fat instead of glycogen. The theory is that fat is a less efficient source of fuel but you can last longer if you burn fat because our bodies (at least my body!) has an unlimited supply of fat but a limited supply of glycogen. Besides, I think I ate enough the day before to have enough “reserve fuel” for an 8km run and I was going to make up for it with the free hotel breakfast post-run. π I think I will try to do more of this rather than always feeling the need to have a pre-run snack (do I really need a whole PB&J?), especially if I’m running less than 1 hour.
I ran very slowly and stopped to take a lot of selfies. It was great to run through the town with hardly anyone on the roads. I’m also glad I had familiarized myself with the route before I went out so I didn’t feel lost or unsafe at any point.
There is an outdoor gallery of Group of Seven murals in the town. I am not usually into art but I took selfies anyway because, you know… #runselfierepeat

Nutrition log:
- Pre-run: nothing
- Mid-run: water
- Post-run: free hotel breakfast! (eggs, sausages, toast with marmalade, yogurt, muffin, peppermint tea)
