My first personal training session and Week 2 MP run

As part of the November Fitness Challenge that I did at my work, I won 2nd place. My prize was 2 x 45 minutes of personal training sessions with Filomena, the trainer and manager of the fitness centre at my work. I did my first session this morning and it was a truly humbling experience.

I’ve never done personal training before so I didn’t really know what to expect. Filomena is super passionate about fitness and is very knowledgeable about all things fitness-related. She knew a bit about my running goals and I had shared with her my training plan. I asked her to teach me how to do strength training because I don’t have a clue where to begin.

We worked through exercise after exercise, alternating between legs, arms, butt, and abs. She had me use muscles that have never been used before and ones I didn’t know existed. She had to constantly correct my form – it was so hard to do the exercises properly!! My arms and legs were shaking at the end of each set.

It’s hard to remember all the exercises that she showed me. I need to figure out a way to remember and make strength training part of my routine.

The good news is that I was still able to do a 10k run tonight at marathon pace. I wasn’t sure if I’d make it through but I did, thanks to Ravi for letting me chase him. I even finished the Lululemon 80km challenge today, just in time!
