20k run: no big deal

I wasn’t able to run with the RunNinjas this morning because of a work event. Since I was already downtown, I wanted to run the Martin Goodman Trail by the lake in the afternoon. I was lucky that Lisa, Parm, Dave, and Vincent decided to join me.

When the people at the work event asked me how long I was planning to run and I told them 20k, they did a collective gasp and their jaws dropped. They looked at me like I had 5 arms and 3 eyes. For a moment, their reaction actually caused me to question myself. Did I accidentally say 200k instead of 20k? Am I actually running 20k? Why are they looking at me like that? Did I just grow a 3rd eye?

Then they asked how long will it take me and I said about 2 hours. Their jaws dropped even further and now I had 10 arms and 6 eyes. It was funny to see their reaction.

I need to remember that just 2 years ago, I would have had the same reaction if someone told me they were going to run 20k for fun. I mean, it’s almost a half marathon! Some people’s life goal is to run a half marathon and most have never attempted it!

That’s why I love being with the RunNinjas because when I’m with them, 20k is no big deal. In fact, Parm ran 23k in the morning and still came to run another 20k with us in the afternoon! Ok, maybe that’s not normal, even among ninjas… except for Jim. 🀣🀣🀣

I’ve heard that we are the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with. I’m glad that I spend so much time with my run family because not only do they make me a better runner, they make me a better person.
