What if I told you that there’s an investment product out there that promised to generate $36 for every dollar you invested? And what if I told you that you just need to invest 1% of your income for it to generate this return?
In 2011, The Lancet published a study that tracked over 400,000 people over an average of 8 years. Compared with individuals in the inactive group, those who exercised for an average of 15 min a day had a 3 year longer life expectancy. This means that, on average, for every minute they exercised during those 8 years, they gained 36 minutes in life expectancy…a 36 minute ROI! What’s more, 15 minutes a day is ONLY 1% of your time. Ergo…by investing just 1% of your time to exercising, you will have a longer life expectancy. Wait.. what??
By investing just 1% of your time to exercising, you will have a longer life expectancy.
Based on this research, the minimum amount of activity you can do to gain a health benefit is 15 minutes a day or 30 minutes every other day. If you have time to watch Netflix or scroll through social media, you can spare 1% of your day to invest in yourself! Make the 1% investment – you deserve it!!
For those interested, here’s proof that I can do math….
ROI calculation
- (a) = Time invested in exercise over 8 years = 15 minutes/day x 365 days/year x 8 years = 43,800 minutes
- (b) = Number of minutes in a 3 year longer life expectancy = 3 years x 365 days/year x 24 hours/day x 60 minutes/hour = 1,576,800 minutes
- ROI = Return on investment = (b)/(a) = 36
15 minutes = 1% of your time
- (c) = number of minutes in a day = 24 hours x 60 minutes/hour = 1,440 minutes
- % = 15 minutes/(c) = 1.042%
