Had a crappy day at work today so I was looking forward to running with the ninjas tonight.
I had a big bowl of ramen at lunch but didn’t have a pre-run snack like I usually do. So when I got to MEC and Jim offered me a protein bar sample, I was excited… until I realized that it was a cricket protein bar.
Thanks Jim, you shouldn’t have, seriously.
I reluctantly tried it because I was a little hungry and a little curious about how a cricket bar tastes.
The verdict: it looked like a dense brownie but had the sweetness of dates and a bit of crunch which I assume is from the crickets. While I didn’t mind the crunch of the crickets, I didn’t enjoy the taste of dates in a brownie-looking thing so I don’t think I would eat it again. A brownie should taste like a brownie, not dates. I washed it down with water and tried not to think about it.
Back to the run. It was very cold and windy today. We did 6 sets of hills into a head wind. My legs felt like lead and it was hard to do the hills and sustain a fast pace. I blame it on the crickets.

Nutrition log:
- Pre-run: half a cricket bar 5 minutes before and lots of water to wash it down
- Mid-run: water
- Post-run: Vector cereal with milk, homemade granola bar, young coconut juice and meat, strawberry Pina colada
