I did it!

I did my longest run before the marathon today! I was planning on doing 32km but ended up doing 33km. Now it’s taper time!

I started at 5:50am today, the earliest I’ve ever started. It was hard to wake up but I wanted to meet up with the North York Women’s running group who meets at 6:30am at Ellerslie Park which is about 6km from my house. It was also good to start earlier because it was super cool in the morning. Also, The San Francisco Marathon will be starting around the same time so it’s good practice for race day! I actually made a point of wearing what I think I will be wearing on race day. The only thing I will change is my hat. I’ll be wearing a visor instead of the red hat.

I ran to meet Ravi at Hillcrest and Doris and then we ran to Ellerslie Park to meet up with the other women runners. There were about 7 of them. One was super fast and the rest were super slow. πŸ˜‚ We ran to a pond in the ravine, just south of Sheppard. It was beautiful. The sun was shining and there was a layer of mist on top of the water. We often say that Toronto is a concrete jungle but it’s amazing to find hidden gems like this.

Then we ran to the Don River Trail and did a small loop before heading to MEC at 8:30am. By the time we got to the store, I had already done 21km and Ravi had done 18km. Ravi went home from there.

We ran the trail and back. I only ran to the end of Leslie and Steeles while the rest of the ninjas crossed the street to the “earthquake bridge”. When I got back, I bought a chocolate milk from the convenience store as my post-run protein treat. πŸ˜„

It feels so good to be done with my long runs. Next week is “only” 20km and we are running to Nathan Phillips Square. Fun! πŸ˜„

When I got home, I took a shower and then took a nap. πŸ˜‚
