Race Report: Oasis Zoorun 5k

On Saturday, my whole family did the ZooRun 5k together. It was great to share this race experience with my husband and kids.

It was a double run day for me because in the morning, the Ninjas did a sunrise run at 6:30am to celebrate the first day of Autumn. Jim also organized a breakfast spread at the end so I did 13km with the ninjas and had some breakfast (yum!) before heading to the zoo. I’m so glad the timing all worked out so I could do both runs! #FOMO

It was super cold when we got to the zoo. Maybe it was because I was already wet and sweaty from the ninja run. Even though I changed into a dry shirt, my sports bra was still wet so I had to wear a jacket for the race to keep warm. I was even holding a tea during the race. 😂

I ran with Keith and Jeremy ran with Ainsley. Keith did really well. He ran the first 2.5km without walking. I just let him set the pace and walked when he wanted to walk and ran when he was ready to run again. We finished in under 36 minutes which is pretty good for his first and longest race. We went through the chute, got our medals, photos, and sat down to enjoy the post-race food. I’m glad we got to share the experience together.

Ainsley and Jeremy, on the other hand, took a LOOOOOOONG time to finish. They ended up walking most of it and finished in 1:10! Apparently, Ainsley only wanted to run during the downhills and they stopped a lot to take photos with the animals. 😂

We met up with Tracey and Maggie and ended up walking around the zoo together the whole afternoon and saw lots of animals. We also bumped into Fiona, Edric, Alistair, and Carmen’s family.

It was hard to get good photos of the animals with my phone because most of them were so far away. These are my 2 best photos:
