Midnight run

Last night, I attended a fancy fundraising dinner. I decided that this was the night to break the alcohol fast that I have been on since August. I had a lot of fun at the event (the wine helped) and at the end of the evening, I UBER’d home.

So far so good.

As I approached my front door, I suddenly realized that I didn’t have my house keys on me (there’s only so much you can fit into a fancy clutch). I started ringing the doorbell repeatedly like a mad woman. The kids were fast asleep in their rooms and Jeremy was at hockey. It was about 11:30pm and it slowly dawned on me that I was locked out of my own house.

I had to quickly come up with Plan B. I decided to UBER back to work to pick up my keys which I assumed was in my backpack, where I normally keep them. When I got to work, I changed out of my dress and high heels into regular clothes and running shoes. Then I UBER’d home.

As I approached my front door (again), I pulled out the keychain from my backpack. Guess what, THERE WAS NO KEY! 🤬🤬🤬 I can’t believe I came home twice without my key!!! I started questioning how drunk I actually was.

Since I had changed into my running shoes, I decided to run back to work instead of UBERing again or taking the subway. After all, it’s only 3k.

What was I thinking?!?! Who runs 3k at midnight?? Clearly, I wasn’t making a rational decision. Blame it on the alcohol.

So yup, I ended up running 3k at midnight… because I can. At least it makes for a good story to tell.

Thankfully, Jeremy got my message as I was running and he ended up meeting me at work so I didn’t have to run 3k back home.

The saddest part of this story is that I still had insomnia and woke up around 4am and couldn’t get back to sleep. Explains why this morning’s long run felt so hard (I’m sure the wine didn’t help either) but I got it done!

Despite the wind and the cold, the fall foliage was so beautiful. #thisisautumn
