ATB30K and Toronto Marathon training plan

I took 2 weeks off work over the holidays. I was able to run, swim, or skate every day during these 2 weeks. It was bliss!

Tomorrow is back to work ๐Ÿ˜ฉ but it’s also the start of my training plan for ATB30K and Toronto Marathon! ๐Ÿ˜ŠMar 30 and May 5 seem so far away but I know it will be here in a blink. I’m both nervous and excited to put in the hard work during this training block.

This training plan is a bit more intense than my previous training plans. In addition to incorporating cross training (swimming and spinning) and some strength training, I want to focus more on my pacing and actually try to do Tempo runs at Tempo pace (~5:10) and long slow distance runs at a slow pace (~6:00). We’ll see how that goes. ๐Ÿ˜… I will also do some runs at race pace. Since Lisa wants to do a sub4 marathon, our race pace will be 5:40. #scary ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I’m also hoping to be more disciplined in my diet. It’s a constant struggle for me but I want to eat more veggies and whole foods, and practise portion control. I hope to lose a few more pounds along the way if I can!

Wish me luck!!

  1. I’m so sad I can’t start training with you tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข Thanks for adjusting your marathon plan ๐Ÿ™
Thanks for loaning me the bike trainer, not the same as running with you but seems effective.

That is one serious plan! You have something going on everyday. So committed. Youโ€™re gonna be in tip top shape by the time the May marathon rolls around! Just be careful and stay injury free as getting to the start line healthy is half of the challenge.

Way to go Joyce! This is a very solid training plan. The only thing I may consider changing up is shortening the 27km long run the week after ATB. After all, you would had just done 30k at your goal marathon pace on a hilly course the previous week. ATB will be, by far, the hardest workout on your training calendar. Depending on how you feel, you may want to take the entire week after ATB very very easy to recover properly from this extremely hard effort. Good luck in your training!

    1. I signed up for the Spring Run-Off 8k and I was gonna run to High Park (~20k) and then run (not race) the 8k. But I guess I’ll have to play it by ear and see how I feel after ATB. Thanks for the advice!!
