Two days after I came back from Jamaica, I caught the mother of all flu’s. I was in bed for 3 days. I had no appetite and didn’t even have enough energy to chew an apple. I basically survived on water and Nuun for a few days. The good news is I lost 8lbs (who knew I was carrying so much water weight?), the bad news is that I gained it all back a week later. It’s been 3 weeks and I don’t think I’ve fully recovered yet.
Since then, my hamstrings have been seriously bothering me. It’s as if they atrophied because I was in bed for most of the week. π±π±π±
On Wednesday, we did a very short 6km interval workout and I was in so much pain toward the end that I almost stopped to walk. After the run, I got my husband (bless his heart) to massage my leg for 1 hour. It was so painful but it was what I needed.
Another hypothesis for my hamstring pain may be related to the wintery conditions. Because it has been pretty icy and snowy outside, I may have been heel striking more to compensate. So today, I tried to focus on toe-striking which seemed to be better. Unfortunately, when we were running through a particularly snowy stretch, I rolled my ankle so now my hamstrings are better but my left ankle has a sharp pain when I rotate it. There’s always something. Argh.
The good news is that Lisa is back after a 6-week recovery from an ankle injury. To celebrate, we ran to a mural. How appropriate! π

I appreciate your body compensating so much in waiting for my return but enough now! Let’s both get & stay healthy πππ

Ouch! Injuries are the worst. Iβve been hampered by a heel issue that I developed b/c of a bad pair of boots. So annoyed! But sounds like your back at it now. I saw on TV how much snow you guys have been getting. Itβs incredible that you can still run outside in those conditions!
