Family Day long weekend

During Family Day weekend, friends of ours invited us to stay with them at Carriage Hills Resort just north of Barrie. Jeremy had always wanted to take the kids skiing so, since Horseshoe Valley was nearby, it was the perfect opportunity to finally take them.

After the Saturday long run (where I rolled my ankle), we drove to Horseshoe Valley and Jeremy took the kids skiing while I nursed the ankle with ice whenever I could and took it easy. It was mostly better by the next morning.

We usually would just skip church when we are out of town but our friends wanted to go to church on Sunday so we went with them. Barrie is quite small so when we passed by the MEC on our way to church, I wondered if I would see anyone from the Barrie RunNinjas running while we were in Barrie. Of course, I don’t know any of them so I wouldn’t recognize them even if I did see runners running. So that’s kind of silly, right?

Wrong!

To my surprise, at the end of the service, a woman comes up to me and asked, “Are you Lisa’s friend?”

Turns out she recognized me from Lisa’s IG account and I recognized her from a picture that Lisa sent me of her wearing a RunNinjas t-shirt. She’s from the Barrie RunNinjas group! Crazy, right?

Right!

This was completely divine intervention. We had a good chat. She ran Boston last year after joining the RunNinjas a few years ago. Our kids are the same age. It gives me hope that I can also run Boston one day!

By Monday, my ankle was feeling fine so, with renewed energy, I went out for a run when we got back to Toronto. I remembered Sandra posting about the Marathon Cafe and their award winning HK milk tea so I decided to run there. It was 10k to get there but since it was such a beautiful day, it didn’t seem that far even though I knew I had to run back.

Here I am enjoying a HK milk tea and a pineapple bun. I ordered it with butter (that’s how people normally eat it) and it was the biggest slab of butter I have ever seen. Actually made me feel really gross afterward. Next time I’ll skip the butter.

Since then, I have been back on track with my training plan. I even did a spin class today for cross training. I don’t know why people spin. It’s so boring. Almost as bad as running on a treadmill. Almost.

You’re famous! And the running world is a small one. I’m sure Boston is in your future! 😉 Can’t believe you had al that butter…they literally put in a whole slab. 😂
