21km and more

Yesterday I was supposed to run 21km. I was tired even before I started because I was up late and, as usual, didn’t sleep well. Also (TMI alert) because Aunt Flow was visiting after being late for 10 days. 😬

Even though I had done a 24k long run last Saturday, I didn’t know if I was going to be able to make it to 21k yesterday. The best part of the run was when I was runchatting with Lisa because it was the only time I wasn’t thinking about how much my legs felt like lead.

We ran to a beautiful mural and stopped to take some pics. I love that there’s so much public art in the city. I’ve driven by this a million times and have never really noticed it.

When we got back to the store, I had only done 15km and I was ready to quit. Somehow, I managed to drag my lead legs out again for Jim’s “bonus round”. He asked me what my target was. When I told him 21k, he asked “Why not 22?” So he made me do an extra km. I guess that’s what coaches do, pushing you to the limit and then some.

Today is the Chilly Half. A few ninjas are racing it. This race brings back lots of memories. It was the first race that Lisa and I did together. We had no idea what our pace was going to be and ended up crushing our PBs and what we thought would be our goal time. We ran 2:00:53, so close to sub-2! I can’t believe that was only 1 year ago. Seems like we have been running together forever.

This year, we will be running the Beaches half in July which will be our opportunity to run sub-2. It’s gonna be sweet. Lisa got a free race entry and a few of us got a 50% off discount because our Ninja team placed 1st in the Shakespeare Runs the Night 30k last Aug. The best part about these races are the free race photos! Can’t wait! 😄
